Tumblr 4.0 Launches on iOS with New Blogging and Search Features

Tumblr 4.0 began rolling out this morning on iOS. The new version of the popular blogging app boasts a number of features that were previously only available on desktop. Now, users can contribute to submission blogs and create secondary blogs right through the app.

Tumblr 4.0 also offers other features that are unique to the iOS platform, including the “Today” widget. The new widget makes use of the iOS 8 feature that lets you see useful information right on your Today screen. The Today widget will let you see what’s trending on Tumblr, instead of the latest updates to your own blog.

The new update also includes one feature that’s already rolled out on Android. Users can now add video posts by simply copying and pasting the video’s URL.

Tumblr has also made it easier to search the site with new filters, like post type, and the ability to switch between recent and top results.

A few minor improvements have also been included, like sticky avatars and search bars. The iPad layout has been improved as well as GIF loading.

Tumblr 4.0 started rolling out to iOS users early this morning and should be available to most users by the end of the day.
