A Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched what it is calling the world’s thinnest smartphone.

After being officially launched in China back in December, the Vivo X5 Max is now available to buy in Thailand for 15,990 THB.

At its slimmest point the Vivio X5 Max measures just 3.98mm and 4.75mm at it thickest, which is about half as thick as an iPhone 5s, Google Nexus 5 and LG G3.

Vivo’s offering dethrones the R5 smartphone, which another Chinese manufacturer Oppo, touted as being the world’s thinnest smartphone when it launched a few weeks prior to the Vivo X5 Max.

Just as impressive as the exterior of the X5 Max is the thickness of the components inside the device, which includes a motherboard of just 1.77mm thick and a speaker which measures just 2.45mm.

The Vivo X5 Max also boasts an impressive range of specs including a 5.5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display (1920×1080) with 401ppi.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM. There is also 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB via the multipurpose SIM card slot, which in addition to a MicroSD can also take a second SIM card if required.

As for the camera, the Vivo Max X5 boasts a Sony manufactured 13MP rear facing shooter, which sits slightly raised on the reverse of the phone, in addition to a 5MP camera on the front.

The phone runs Vivo’s own Funtouch OS which sits on top of Android’s 4.4 KitKat.

Vivo has even managed to include a 3.5mm headphone jack into the ultra chassis.

The ThaiTech team got a brief glimpse of the Vivo X5 Max at Thailand Mobile Expo and whilst the time we spent with the device wasn’t really long enough to offer any kind of review, the first thing that we noted about the X5 Max, in addition to its slim frame, was its bright and sharp display, which seemed very impressive indeed.

  1. No Vivo Bendgate? I am sure if you sit on it, it will bend. Or is only Apple held to this level of scrutiny?
