What to expect at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 on Monday

For anyone that hasn’t yet heard, next week marks the start of the biggest event in the mobile industry’s calendar, where just about every tech company shows off their latest products and gadgets for the year ahead. Mobile World Congress 2015 is a four-day event beginning on Monday 2nd of March, held in Barcelona, Spain. So just what can we expect next week in the way of sexy new tech…?

Mobile World Congress 2015

Mobile World Congress always results in a flurry of smartphone releases and tech news. Held once a year in the spring, it’s a mad, jam-packed event that includes mobile phones, network technology, wearables, smart home devices, and just about every other gadget you can think of.

I once actually attended Mobile World Congress as an exhibitor, and I can tell you, for the people manning the stands, it’s four very long days of hell, talking to customers and trying to sell your products.

What new devices and gadgets will be revealed next week? We already know that the main players like Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and many more will be showing off new flagship devices (except Apple, which doesn’t attend in an official capacity). The Galaxy S6 will be revealed on Sunday, the day before MWC, but most of the announcements will be held during the week.

The HTC One M9 is also expected to be revealed, and is likely to be pretty close to the leaked shots and specs that we have already seen.

The number of new devices are too numerous to mention, but we’ll be providing full coverage during the week.

Aside from mobile phones, it’s also likely that there will be lots of new wearables on show – perhaps a new Galaxy Gear device, as well as smart watches that work with mobile phones. Motorola just released an all-metal version of the popular Moto 360 devices, which might also make an appearance.

Unfortunately for most smart watches, the event will be overshadowed by the Apple Watch event the following week, so it’s likely that the companies launching them will be trying to make as big an impact as possible over the next few days.

There are also going to be lots of demonstrations of new network technologies – for example 5G concept demonstrations and new gear aimed at the mobile phone companies.
