WhatsApp users can now post colourful text based status updates onto their profile.
The feature allows users to write text on a colourful background.
Initially, it will only be available for text but it is expected to be available for images and videos soon.
You can now choose different fonts, change background colours as well as being able to add links.
The feature is the same as the one which first appeared on Facebook in December 2016, and had been rolled out to some WhatsApp users as part of a beta test earlier this month.
However, the feature is now available to all WhatsApp users.
Facebook seems to have a pattern of trying new features first before including them on WhatsApp.
Facebook believe that coloured updates will increase engagement although they haven’t gone down well in all quarters. It is obvious however, that Facebook believes that they are working with as they are now being introduced onto WhatsApp.
“Now you never have to worry about getting the word out to all your family and friends. Whether you’re looking for vacation recommendations or notifying a group about the address for a party, the text-based status feature allows you to update your contacts in a fun and personal way,” WhatsApp said announcing the new feature.
