Windows 10 is getting some new features – here they are


Microsoft may have only just begun rolling out its April Windows 10 update but the company has now announced a handful of new features that will feature in the next major update to its operating system which is likely to be released around September or October.

The new features are included in Windows 10 build version 17666 which is available to download for testing by those who are part of Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program.

Cloud clipboard

One of the most useful new features is the cloud clipboard that will allow you to copy text from one device and have it displayed on another. The feature offer should offer seamless transition from say your PC to your iPhone.

Cloud clipboard will let you copy from one device to another and keep a history of all the things you have copied.

Dark mode

The new update will see the dark interface included on Windows 10 File Explorer meaning it should be a little easier on your eyes when using your laptop at night


Notepad is also getting what could become a handy new feature. Users will be able to highlight a word a then use a keyboard shortcut to search Bing about the particular word.

Your Phone

Your Phone allows users to access their smartphone directly from their PC.

Microsoft said Your Phone, which works by providing a mirror of the user’s smartphone to the their PC, will soon be available for testing to users of the Windows Insider Programme later this week.

It will be available on both Android and iOS devices, Microsoft said, and will offer access to photos, text messages and notifications.

Microsoft says the new feature will allow users to quickly access content on their PC without having to pick up their smartphone.

Screen Sketch

The new update will see Microsoft overhaul how users take screenshots. Screen sketch will be updated to allow users to take improved screenshots, add annotations and make it easier to share.

There will also be options for grabbing a full screen or just a selection of the screen by using the WIN + Shift + S key combination.

The next major update to Windows 10 is codenamed Redstone 5 and is expected to be released in September or October this year.
