Many people in the tech industry have been wondering when Xiaomi will grow weary of selling millions of phones in Asia and turn its attention to the US, UK and Europe. But now it seems that the answer is next week.
As noted on Xiaomi’s Facebook page, the Mi Store will open its doors to the western world on May 19th in a beta trial. Phone accessories are the focus in the short term, but it seems fairly inevitable that smartphones will follow in the not-too-distant-future.
“For the first time ever, fans in the US, UK, France and Germany can shop on mi.com and purchase star accessories like the 5000mAh and 10400mAh Mi power banks, Mi Band and Mi Headphones”, says the person that manages Xiaomi’s Facebook Page.
Xiaomi Mi Store opens its doors, quantities limited
It seems that very limited quantities will be available on the 19th launch date, so if you do want to get your hands on some Xioami kit then sign up for a Mi account at http://account.mi.com as soon as possible.
The level of interest that Xiaomi gets should help it gauge the right time to start selling its line of smartphones further afield than Asia. Xiaomi”s Vice President of International Hugo Barra says the company’s phones and tablets are going to arrive in the US sometime this year.
The Xiaomi sale starts at 1pm Central European Standard Time – which is midday in the UK, and 7am Eastern in the US, or 6pm in Thailand and other parts of Asia.
It looks like this is just the beginning and the company will before long be selling much more than just chargers, smart bands and headphones.
