Google (Thailand) have announced findings from a local survey that shows YouTube is now more popular than Thai terrestrial television among Thai people.
Speaking in Bangkok the head of Google marketing in the country Michael Jittiwanich said that 81% of Thai people were using YouTube to watch videos online.
A total of 61% of people preferred YouTube to watching television while only 11% preferred TV over the site.
On average Thai people were spending 14 hours a week on YouTube and only ten on television.
More people were spending more time watching YouTube in the provinces than in Bangkok.
Uploads to YouTube were increasing by 75% each year, said Michael.
Thai people were now tenth in the world rankings for time spent on the video sharing site with 59% accessing it directly and 41% using other links to view content.
